On April 5, the New York Times posted the above video entitled "A Conversation with Asian Americans." This is the latest in their "A Conversation..." series; past conversations have included Latinos, Police, Blacks, and Whites.
This video brings the "model minority" myth directly into question. Twelve Asian Americans from diverse backgrounds and varying viewpoints share their thoughts on what it means to be Asian American. By all accounts, it is very well done and gives Asian American voices a national spotlight.
"Wait, it’s 2016 right?! Weren't I and many other folks complaining about this in the 90s? And weren’t prior generations of Filipino Americans complaining about this marginalization before us?”
Watch the Times video below, then read David's piece on Filipino Americans as the "Forgotten Asian Americans." Together, they illustrate that conversations on race and identity in America remain complicated.
